Kava kava, often simply referred to as kava, is a plant native to the South Pacific islands, particularly Fiji, Vanuatu, and Tonga.

The scientific name of the kava plant is Piper methysticum. Kava has been used traditionally by Pacific Island cultures for centuries.

The root of the kava plant is typically used to make a beverage by grinding it into a powder, mixing it with water, and then straining it to produce a murky, earthy-tasting liquid. This beverage has been consumed ceremonially and socially in Pacific Island cultures, often in rituals, ceremonies, and gatherings.

Kava contains compounds called kavalactones, which are responsible for its psychoactive effects. Kava is often consumed for its calming effects, promoting relaxation and sociability.

In recent years, kava has gained popularity in other parts of the world.

Like kava, kratom is relatively new to the United States, and begins with a K. That's where the similarity ends.

Kratom comes from the Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, where most of the commercial kratom shipped to the West grows. Indonesia is about 4500 miles West of Fiji.

Kratom, like kava, is a psychoactive plant that has been used for centuries. Unlike kava, the leaves of kratom are consumed, rather than the root. Kava is a perennial shrub, while kratom is a tree.

The effects of kratom are markedly different from kava. Kratom has more of a morning, energetic effect, while kava has more of an evening, relaxation effect. Yet, kratom can also be calming, while kava can give you a type of energy that boosts extroverted, talky behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to understand that kratom and kava are two distinct plants.
